in the iridescence, the interplay
@New BAR
On Sunday, July 5, Margareta Klose and Marlene Lahmer presented site-specific installations at
New Bar, a place to drink lovingly maintained and artfully lit. Where car lights cast plants’ shadows
on your friends' faces and green to pink light catches in your drinking glass.
"in the iridescence, the interplay"
is a quote by Norman O. Brown (Love's Body 1966) referring to the places where meaning can be
found. We took the iridescence (changeant reflections of light) quite literally and inserted one or the
other transparent and light-based interventions into New Bar.
Margareta projected a conspicuous gamble of words on the outside facade.
Marlene placed blown glass pieces inside the bar to mingle with their industrial counterparts on the
countertops, and implemented Norman O. Brown’s poetic thoughts on transparent banners in the
bar's large window niches.
Paul Sprung designed the evening’s poster showing bar light in a nocturnal puddle on the curb in
front of the bar.
